MS Dhoni had fixed the May 12 game between Rajasthan Royals

After the Trichy Railways Superintendent of Police Sampath Kumar alleged that MS Dhoni had fixed the May 12 game between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings in last year's Indian Premier League, there is fresh controversy in store for Indian captain MS Dhoni after an unnamed Rajasthan Royals player made the sensational revelation that the CSK skipper was "involved" in spot fixing in that encounter against Rajasthan Royals.

The player alleges that MS Dhoni had full knowledge of what was happening around him, and interestingly, it is the same match in which Sampath Kumar had said that he had spoken to a bookie who had claimed that MSD had "fixed" the match. Sampath Kumar had alleged that bookie Uttam C Jain alias Kitty had told him about a hotelier named Vikram Agarwal who was said to be arranging parties for bookies. Agarwal is believed to have close links with CSK team principal Gurunath Meiyappayan, the son-in-law of BCCI chief N.Srinivasan.

The Rajasthan Royals player was of the view that Chennai Super Kings weren't playing like their usual selves in that particular match - the player told The Sunday Guardian that CSK were not playing their "regular game" in a match Rajasthan won in a convincing manner. "There were many factors which made me feel that CSK were not keen to win the match. Right from the time they came to bat first, there were many things that happened on that day which were also quite questionable. Also captain Dhoni seemed to be unusually tense during that match. I believe he had a hand in the manner in which CSK played that day," the player said.

The usual free-scoring CSK batsmen were unusually lacklustre on that particular day, he recalls. "But on that day, they did not seem to be any sort of hurry to score. That apart, the rate of scoring remains a mystery of sorts till date. He went on to add that at one point CSK were going very strong at 83 for 1 in the 12th over. Normally, it is an unwritten rule in the TV cricket that when scores a particular score at the end of 12-overs, one can expect that score to be doubled at the end next 10-overs. But imagine our surprise when they scored just 141."

141 for 4 in 20 overs on a beautiful Jaipur pitch with Dhoni and Suresh Raina among your ranks does seem far too strange, doesn't it? Now, there was another strange occurence that the player was all too keen to point out. "In any T20 tie, one can see around 12 to 15 sixes being hit. CSK did not hit a single six in their entire innings. This is something unheard of in a T20 tie. In my career in T20 so far, I have never come across a competitive T20 match in which a team fails to manage a single six. We knew that there was something wrong with the way CSK were approaching their innings," he said.

The player goes on to question Dhoni and Raina's slow approach to the innings - "What was even more intriguing was the fact that both Dhoni and Raina got out in the same after scoring 1 and 2 runs respectively. "Nothing wrong in that. But when you consider the fact that both got out in the same over bowled by West Indian rookie bowler Kevin Cooper then things are not normal", he recalls.

His parting note raises some doubts over the involvement of Dhoni - "Normally one would expect the Indian captain to be cool and composed. But he seemed to very tense. Now we all knew that even if CSK had lost this match, they had already qualified for the next stage. So why he tense for no reason?".

Far too many questions to be answered as Indian cricket enters a very delicate situation!
